Grid tells DVB to draw less power

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, MARCH 10: The mercury is on the rise and with it, the Capital's power problems are increasing. The Northern Grid from which the Capital gets nearly 70 per cent of its power supply has asked all states to restrict the power that they draw.According to the Delhi Vidyut Board (DVB) spokesperson, the region has been facing a severe shortage since the evening of March 5. Leakage in the boiler tubes in three stations, including the one at Singhrauli and Suryagarh have caused the present crisis.

The officials of the Northern Region Load Dispatch Centre (NRLDC) have written to the DVB to restrict the power they draw within schedule. They have pointed out that apart from these three units, two units at Anpara and another unit at NAPS have already been shut down and the total loss of generation is around 2000 MW. The generation at the NTPC gas stations have also been reduced due to the shutdown of the ONGC gas platform. In view of all these units being shut down, NRLDC officials have requested all states drawing power, including Delhi, to restrict themselves as per the schedule, to ensure the safety and security of the grid.
