Jhaveri dazzles, Patil beats Rane

MUMBAI, MARCH 10: Notable breaks of 38 and 20 saw Chintan Jhaveri beat Mario Fernandes 82-40 in the first round of the ATM Shipping AR Dias Open Break Billiards Tournament at the Catholic Gymkhana today.

In a match of equals, SS Patil scored a convincing 97-17 victory over V Rane to advance into the second round.

Both play with a handicap of 10. J Singaporewala (handicap 11) beat Joe Thomas (12) 67-33 in another first round encounter.

Welingkar score

An unbeaten half-century by Vinayak Naik helped Welingkar score a thumping 96-run win over Damlia in the Impact 99 cricket tournament, the Inter-Management Annual Cricket Tournament organised by Welingkar Institute of Management at the Matunga Gymkhana Grounds today.

Batting first Welingkar scored 214 for nine in the stipulated 30 overs. Naik's knock of 88 came off just 69 balls and was well complimented by Manish Bhatia (46 off 32 balls).

In reply Dalmia were scuttled out for 118 with eight overs to spare.

Sydenham 216-4 (Vaibhav 57, Vishnu 56) lost to NMIMS 217-4 in 28.4 overs (Vivek 72 not out, Sachin 57)

JBIMS 155-9 lost to MET 156-4 in 26.2 overs.
