`Sarfaraz allegations baseless'

MUMBAI: BCCI president Raj Singh Dungarpur said today he was disguted by Sarfaraz Nawaz's allegation of matchfixing against a player of Gavaskar's stature. ``Nawaz has always made baseless statements,'' he told Indian Express.

Mr Dungarpur, manager of the Indian team during the Wankhede Test of 1979-80, alleged by Nawaz to be fixed, said: ``I remember India won the toss and were 154 for six. They went on to make 334. The word match-fixing was not in the vocabulary of cricketers then.'' Meanwhile, Gavaskar said here that he was keeping his options of taking legal action against Nawaz open.

Mah in quarters

ROOPNAGAR: Defending champions Kerala and West Bengal (Pool A), Punjab and Chandigarh (Pool B), MP and UP (Pool C), and Maharashtra and Delhi (Pool D) qualified for the quarter-finals of the 27th National women handball Championship here today.
