HYDERABAD, March 12: The Railway police recently arrested two inter-state thieves who, during the course of interrogation, have confessed to having cheated several passengers travelling in trains.One of the accused Gopigiri Yanadi Reddy, who was arrested at Guntakal railway station, told the investigating officials that he would mix datura seed powder in some prasada and offer the same to a co-passenger. When the powder would make the victim drowsy, Reddy would rob him of valuables and get off the train at the next station. The police have recovered stolen properties worth Rs 2 lakh from Reddy's possession.
The modus operandi of the other accused Syed Amanullah of Tamil Nadu, who was apprehended at Vijayawada, was to travel on long distance trains and after familiarising with co-passengers, offer tea mixed with sleeping pills. Minutes after the victim lost consciousness, Amanullah would decamp with the stolen booty.
The Vijayawada railway police recovered valuables worth Rs 1.2 lakh fromhis possession. Both the accused were remanded to judicial custody, according to a press release.
