Nine UCMS students suspended, welfare panel formed

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, MARCH 12: Nine students of the University College of Medical Sciences have been suspended. The decision was taken by a panel set up by the college to probe clashes which took place between students of the reserved and general category in the boys hostel on February 24. Three of the suspended students are from the reserved category. The college was closed on Wednesday in order to restore normalcy.

A hostel welfare committee has been formed for students of the University College of Medical Sciences, the college announced on Friday. This follows the recommendations of a panel set up to probe caste clashes which rocked the boys' hostel on February 24.

The clashes led to the closure of the boys' hostel and subsequently of the college this week. The inquiry panel had earlier on Thursday ordered suspension of nine students from the hostel, including three from the reserved category.

The hostel welfare committee is to suggest ways to restore harmony so that classes can commence without further delay, a press release from the college said. The members of the committee include Prof P. Gupta, Prof S.K. Bhargava, Prof A.Indrayan, Prof V.P. Gupta, Dr Bharat Singh, Dr Madhur Gupta and Dr Satendra Sharma.
