NEW DELHI, MARCH 12: The Delhi hoopsters have been undergoing strenous workout at the National Stadium courts and are confident of doing better in the Jaipur National Basketball Championships that begins at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium outdoor courts in Jaipur from March 15. The championships was to be held late last year but was first postponed because of the Bangkok Asian Games and subsequently the hosts failed to mobilise funds to conduct in January. Another date was given in between but the Manipur National Games intervened.Defending champions Bihar in the men's section and Railways in the women's section will try to retain their titles they claimed in the last edition at Ludhiana. Almost all states have confirmed their participation in the March 15-22 championships, according to a BFI spokesperson. The BFI's contract with Doordarshan for telecast live comes to an end with this edition and the federation will reek in money with DD giving them Rs. 12.5 lakh this year.
Though local sponsorship has been a problem for the organisers, the BFI has been able to impress upon DD to go for another contract for three more years with increased fund coming the BFI way.
