Kolhapur tense following clashes

UNITED NEWS OF INDIA
KOLHAPUR, MARCH 17: Tension prevailed in the city's Uttreshwar Peth, Dudhali, Rankala and Dhotri areas following a clash between anti-social groups last night.

Swords, iron rods, sticks, soda water bottles, knifes and stones were freely used in the attack, and about nine vehicles and other property was damaged.

Police sources said today that the cause of the incident was rivalry between a sitting and former corporator. Top police officers visited the areas, police sources said.

No arrests have been made, police sources said, adding though the areas were tense, the situation was under control.

Meanwhile, at around 11 pm, the sitting corporator's supporters took out a morcha at Laxmipuri police station demanding the arrest of the rival group leader and his supporters, police sources added.
