Name guilty in marklists scam, demands ABVP

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NAGPUR, MARCH 17: The Vidarbha region unit of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has demanded that the names of the persons involved in the recently exposed marksheet scandal of the Nagpur University be made public and strict action be taken against them.

The ABVP has threatened an agitation if the University does not take action in the matter by March 20. A delegation of the organisation, led by Sandeep Jadhav, unit secretary, met Dr Bhalchandra Chopane, Vice-Chancellor today and submitted a memorandum to him.

They also held a detailed discussion with the V-C, and he assured them that action would be taken on the erring persons, as soon the University gets the report in the matter. The University has appointed a committee to look into the scandal.

Addressing a press conference here, Jadhav said that the ABVP has also put forth other demands to the V-C. The main demands include altering the present revaluation system, which Jadhav said offers incentives to the teachers who are reallyresponsible for the wrong valuation, while the innocent students face unnecessary harassment.

They also demanded that the visit of the University Local Enquiry Committee to colleges be announced in advance so that the students can meet them with their demands. Alteration of the paper setting procedure, proper amenities in the students hostel, changes in admission procedure of various courses and provision of basic amenities at the Gadchiroli sub-centre of the university are among other demands of the organisation.

Mahendra Nimbarte, joint secretary of Vidarbha unit and Atul Kshirsagar, joint secretary of city unit, were present at the press conference.
