Servant drugs women, flees with Rs 2 lakh

Amit Roy
PANCHKULA, March 17: In a shocking incident, a Nepali servant fled with cash, jewellery and other household items worth Rs 2 lakh after drugging two women at their residence in Sector 7, yesterday afternoon.

Admitted at the Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, the two women came around only in the afternoon today and were in no state to comment on the incident.

The incident took place at around 2 p.m. when the servant served chapattis to Dev Rani and her daughter-in-law Neetu, who were the only ones at home with Neetu's one and a half year old son at the time of the incident.

Talking to Newsline Neetu's husband, Ashok Mehta, who was in his office at the time of the incident, said the servant, Ram Prasad, who belonged to Sinbang, Palpa district in Nepal had been employed 4 days ago on the reference of another servant who earlier worked for their neighbours. Ashok suspects that some drug was added in the chapattis which were served for lunch.

Dev Rani and Neetu got unconscious within half an hour after having their lunch. However, before that Neetu went to the Sector 7 market to purchase greeting cards. By the time she was driving back, she started feeling drowsy and on reaching the house she fell unconscious.

It was on hearing the cries of Neetu's one-and-a-half-year-old son after about an hour that their neighbours came to inquire the matter. On reaching the house, they found Dev Rani and Neetu lying unconscious and the house ransacked. They immediately called up Ashok in the office who reached the spot by 4 p.m.

According to Ashok, the steel almirah locker had been broken and Rs 30,000 cash, jewellery worth Rs 1.5 lakh, one camera, wrist watch and some other items were missing.

The two women were rushed to the GMCH-32 and they gained consciousness in the afternoon today. However, they were in no state to comment on the incident.

Meanwhile, Ashok has alleged that the police did not take fingerprints and also did not make use of the dog squad. The police officials, when contacted, refused to comment on the matter. A case has been registered under Section 328, 381 of the Indian Penal Code and further investigations are on.

Incidentally, no police verification had been done of the servant who was about 20 years old, around 5'5" in height and he did not look like a Nepali.
