Irfan murder: Cops feel the pressure

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
New Delhi, March 17: The pressure is on. There seems to be a sudden burst of activity in the areas coming under the Deputy Commissioners of Police of east Delhi and south west Delhi. The police are trying to trace the killers of cartoonist Irfan Hussain.

On Tuesday, none of the Station House Officers or Assistant Commissioners of Police or DCPs of east, central and New Delhi areas could be contacted. They were at a marathon meeting at Police Headquarters with the Joint Commissioner of Police, New Delhi range. It began at 2.30 pm and got over at around 6 pm. The Trilokpuri police had just received the autopsy report. As far as the investigations are concerned, the police may have begun late, in fact too late.

But now they are trying to chase down all the clues. The two DCPs and crime branch have split the investigations between themselves. The various teams of the east DCP have fanned into various parts of Delhi and its outskirts, especially in areas between Delhi and Ghaziabad known for carjacking gangs. They are only looking at the carjacking angle.

The police insist that this angle is important, despite the fact that the victim had 28 stab wounds. The crime branch is looking into every other feasible angle. These include the Shiv Sena's role, if any, property dispute, personal enmity and revenge.
