AHMEDABAD, March 17: One more fell prey to examination pressure on Wednesday while copying cases continued to be registered in Secondary School Certificate examinations.Some 49 cases of irregularities were detected from all over the State on the third day of SSC and HSC examinations with 43 cases in SSC and six in HSC examinations.
One Dhara Arvindbhai Patel, residing in Shivalay Apartment on Sola Road, Ahmedabad, was found dead in an open field behind her residence. Ghatlodia police registered it as accidental death and initiated investigation. Primary investigation, however, revealed that Dhara was disturbed since she came back after appearing for her mathematics paper on Tuesday and said that she could not do good in that paper. The body has been sent for postmortem.
Meanwhile Education Minister Anandiben Patel herself carried out surprise checks in three centres on Wednesday and recovered several chits from students. The minister later said in a release, that supervisors at the centres were also found ineffective and have been warned. Some of the staff in Shakti Vidyalaya in Jivraj Park area were changed after they were found being involved in irregularities.
GSED chairman G D Vyas, examination secretary Vadand and other officials accompanied the Education Minister during her surprise visit. Anandiben also visited Chala and Shertha centres in Gandhinagar district.
In another release, the education department declared that there was a mistake in question number 5 A(1) of SSC mathematics paper and those who attempted the question will be given two marks.
In Vadodara, one case of cheating in the Board examination came to light on Wednesday when a student appearing for a Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exam in Social Science (Gujarati medium) in Sankheda was caught copying from chits by a flying squad. According to District Education Officer V B Nanavati, the flying squad has submitted a report about the malpractice to State Education Board authorities at Gandhinagar.
In Rajkot, District Superintendent of Police Satish Sharma and Deputy Collector (in-charge) Anil Rathod carried our surprise checking at the sensitive centres of Gondal. They caught six students involved in malpractice. District education officer A T Arvadia carried checking at Gondal on Tuesday.
