Joshi's kin shunted out of Siddhi Vinayak Trust

Prafulla Marpakwar
Mumbai, Mar 17: The Sena-BJP government today sacked a close relative of Manohar Joshi, Wasudha Wagh, from the post of chairperson of the prestigious Siddhi Vinayak Temple Trust. And more could be coming from Chief Minister Narayan Rane who is steadily replacing all the Joshi appointees. According to a Sena minister, the next in line could be Advocate General C J Sawant, who was also appointed by Joshi.

Wasudha Wagh, who is also personal astrologer to top political leaders, was appointed chairperson of the trust four years ago and her term was to expire in May, 1999. Wagh is likely to be replaced by former Mayor Vishakha Raut, who was elected to the Mumbai Municipal Corporation from Dadar, the Assembly constituency of Manohar Joshi. Wagh was not available for comment.

Confirming the move, a Sena minister said ``Chief Minister Narayan Rane has made the change in consultation with Sena supremo Bal Thackeray. Necessary orders are being issued by the Law and Judiciary department.''

Ever since Rane wasinstalled as Chief Minister, he has undertaken a massive exercise to shift pro-Joshi officials as well as heads of state-run enterprises. On the day he was sworn in to the coveted post, Rane transferred senior bureaucrats Arun Bongirwar and Ajit Warty in Joshi's secretariat.

Justifying Rane's actions, the minister said: ``Since Rane has to run the government and deliver the goods, it is well within his rights to shift bureaucrats or replace the heads of the state-run enterprises.''

The Minister said the government has also decided to replace Advocate General C J Sawant in a couple of days. ``Once we find a suitable successor for Sawant, Rane will personally convey the desire of the government to the Advocate General,'' he added.

The Advocate General, who normally enjoys a Cabinet rank, is empowered to participate in the proceedings of the State legislature. However, Arvind Bobde, was the only Advocate General who attended the session when A R Antulay was the Chief Minister.
