MTNL (Delhi) finish behind Karnataka

NEW DELHI, March 17: Karnataka grapplers salvaged some pride when they outpointed Mahanagar Telephone Nigam (MTNL) to claim the team championship in the Greco-Roman style of the all-India Telecom Wrestling Championship at the Talkatora Indoor Stadium here today. Karnataka wrestlers logged 61 points.

Though Delhi MTNL lost the team title to finish behind Karnataka with a tally of 54, they grabbed two gold and three silver medals to cap their title victory in the Indian style a couple of days ago.

Ashok Kumar of MTNL downed Gopal Adke of Maharashtra to claim the 54kg category gold while Madan Lal won the 63kg gold beating Ashok Kumar of Punjab. The silver-medallists were Rajinder Kumar (58), Jai Bhagwan (85) and Sunil Kumar (+97).

For Karnataka, G. Rajappa and A.G. Manturgi were the gold medallists in 85 and 69 kg weight categories.

Other gold medallists included Yogesh Tomar (Punjab), Srivant Prasad (Bihar), Rohtash (Punjab) and Krishan Murari Lal.

58kg: 1. Krishan Murari Lal (UP), 2. Bijender Kumar (MTNL, Delhi), 3. BP Thorelkar (Kar).
63kg: 1. Madan Lal (MTNL, Delhi), 2. Ashok Kumar (Pb), 3. BP Torlekar. (Kar).
69kg: 1. AG Manturgi (Kar), 2. Sham Lal (UP), 3. Sabir Mohd (Raj).
76kg: 1. Rohtash (Pb), 2. VB Dalvi (Kar), 3. Jagbir Singh (Raj).
85kg: 1. G Rajappa (Kar), 2. Jai Bhagwan (MTNL, Delhi), 3. K Yadav (AP).
97kg: 1. Yogesh Tomer (Pb), 2. HR Dhananjaya (kar), 3. DS Dhore (Mah).
+ 97kg: 1. Yogesh Tomer (Pb), 2. Sunil Kumar (MTNL, Delhi), 3. Bansi Lal (J&K).
