Sachin Tendulkar to skip entire tri-series
Sachin Tendulkar may be forced to go in for an extended rest than anticipated. Tendulkar, who was scheduled to miss the first two matches, of the Triangular One-Day Series to be played in India between March 19-April 4, is now likely to miss the entire championship.

Disastrous start for Viswanathan Anand
India's Viswanathan Anand had a disastrous start, losing the rapid play game to Ljubomir Ljubojevic of Yugoslavia and drawing the blindfold game with him to trail in the overall standings at the 8th Amber blindfold and rapid chess tournament at Casino Square.

Barua clinches Asian Zonal crown
Grandmaster Dibyendu Barua won the Datamatics Asian Zonal Chess Championships but that is not the big story of the day. It is the dramatic way in which the other Grandmaster, Pravin Thipsay, qualified as the second player from zone 3.1 (b) for the World Championships to be held at Las Vegas next year.
