Villagers of Bhesan torch killer truck

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
SURAT, March 21: Angry residents of Bhesan village, located on the outskirts of the city, torched a truck that crushed a six-year-old boy to death on Sunday.

The mishap occurred when Hayyat Shantilal Patel, resident of Parsiwad, was passing from the Hazira bypass with his parents. The truck driver apparently lost control killing the boy on the spot. His parents escaped uninjured.

The boy's death angered villagers, who gathered in large numbers as the news of the mishap spread. Truck driver Anantbahadur Ramnihor, resident of Dabhan near Nadiad, was thrashed by the mob, which turned violent. The vehicle's tyres were burst and the cabin smashed by the mob before setting it on fire.

The cabin was reduced to its frame. The police put the damage to the truck at Rs 3 lakh. The driver was later handed over to the police. The Rander Police said the driver was not injured.
