NEW DELHI, March 21: A four-year-old child reportedly drowned after he fell into a four-feet deep pit in an MCD park in the West End area of south-west Delhi. The incident took place around 11.30 a.m., when Rohit had gone to play in the public park situated behind his A-9 house in the area. He reportedly wandered into the quiet corner where a pit had been dug to make for a compost pit. It had been filled with leaves and water. The boy reportedly slipped and fell in.Said Rajesh Massey, Rohit's father: ``We found Rohit missing a little after noon, and started looking for him in the park. It was then that my mother-in-law found his slipper floating in the slush pit. And it struck us that Rohit may have fallen into the pit. I jumped in but it was too late.'' Massey is working as a chauffeur with the British High Commission.
According to Massey's neighbours, the pit had been dug in the park around Holi. Two days ago, the pit had been filled with water. The residents were angry that the pit had not been fenced, even temporarily, and that no warning sign had been put up.
The police have, meanwhile, waived off the post-mortem as they do not suspect any foul play.
