HONG KONG: A female apprentice jockey died after falling off her mount and being trampled by other horses at a race here today, local reports said.Willy Kan, who was riding Happy King in the third race, fell to the ground when her horse stepped on the heels of another horse and stumbled while making a turn.

Eyewitnesses said Kan was trampled by other horses. She was rushed to hospital where she underwent emergency surgery and later died. Australian jockey Steven King was also thrown off Joy Mass during the 5th race. King was unhurt and continued riding.

French jockey Eric St-Martin fell off his mount Primo during the 7th race and suffered minor injuries.

Today's races were held under a drizzle. Hong Kong Jockey Club had cancelled seven races last week because of slippery conditions. No Davis: AgassiKEY BISCAYNE: Angry American tennis star Andre Agassi has vowed never to play Davis Cup for the United States again. Agassi was fuming over news of the dismissal ofpopular US Davis Cup team physician Goerge Fareed.Agassi said: ``That's the last straw for me. I never say never, but I'm never playing again.'' US Davis Cup captain Tom Gullikson was hoping Agassi's rant was an impulsive reaction to his early defeat here.

Becker farewell

Key Biscayne: Boris Becker,beaten by an opponent who was five when the German star won his first Wimbledon title, got a standing ovation after playing what was likely to be his last tennis match on US soil. ``My mind doesn't want to do it anymore,'' Becker said after losing 7-5 6-0 to Russian Marat Safin.
