MIG, SPG in Comrade final

MUMBAI, MARCH 21: MIG Cricket Club earned the right to meet Shivaji Park Gymkhana (SPG) in the final of the Young Comrade Shield cricket tournament, conducted by the MIG Cricket Club.

At MIG ground today, the hosts beat Shivaji Park Youngsters by a thumping margin of 136 runs, while SPG beat holders National Cricket Club by seven wickets at the Cross maidan.

A second successive century by opener Manish Bangera and half centuries by Sandesh Paralkar, Amit Velaskar and Prashant Shetty helped MIG post a mammoth 426-4 in their stipulated 70 overs.

In reply, SPY were bowled out for 290 in 64.4 overs. Jitendra Shende (52) and Suhas Mayekar (47) were the principle contributors. Satish Samant and Sandesh Paralkar took three wickets each.

In the other semi-final, an unbeaten knock of 60 (1x6, 9x4, off 74b) by southpaw Manoj Joglekar steered SPG to a seven-wicket win over National. Joglekar and Shreyas Khanolkar (31 n.o.) shared an unbroken fourth-wicket partnership of 67 runs as SPG won easily.

Bombay Gym champs

Bombay Gymkhana won the South Bombay Shield cricket tournament (45 overs) when they beat Regent CC by 35 runs on their homeground, today.Half centuries by Amol Desai (52) and Salil Babar Desai (50) enabled Bombay Gymkhana score 225-9. In reply, Regent were restricted to 190-9 in 45 overs. Left-arm medium-pacer Shailendra Singh took 3-42.

Rajput XI score

Rajput XI beat Catholic Gymkhana 5-4 in the Punjab National Bank-sponsored BHA First Division hockey league at the KhalsaCollege Ground today.Sanjay Fernandes (3) and Gavin Vandrine (2) netted for Rajput. Ryan Alphonso (3) and Valerian Picardo scored for Catholic Gymkhana.

In the other First Division tie, Fr Agnel Gymkhana trounced Marinagar 5-0. The highlight of the game was a hat-trick by Tanveer Shaikh. Rego Menezes and Dhanraj Ghale were the other scorers for the Vashi team.

In the Second Division, Larsen & Toubro defeated Vasai Eskimos A 4-1. A D'Silva, A Bhanji, G Trinidade and Ronnie Patel scored for the winners. Irfan Mohammed reduced the margin.
