Vaidehi upset in ministry carrom
Third seed Vaidehi Gopal of Railways was eliminated by former women champion Asha Thakar of Audit in straight games of the pre-quarter-finals of the Inter-Ministry women's singles. Asha won 22-18, 23-9 to advance to the quarter-finals. Railways women dominated in other matches too. Railways' SS Rawat overcame Christalal of Defense in three games before pervailing 19-10, 7-17, 16-13; L. Joyti (Railways) had an easy time against Vijay Lakshmi (Audit) winning 25-8, 11-8 while K. Venkataraman (Audit) beat Neera Pasricha (Defense) 25-12, 25-4.

In the men's singles, top seed Jai Prakash (Audit), fifth seed V. Suresh (Water Resources), sixth seed Diwan Chand (Urban Affairs), seventh seed VK Dashmana (Audit) were today's upset. Rajesh Kumar (IB), Suresh Kumar (Intellegence Bureau), MM Sahay (Defense), PK Bhargawa (Atomic Energy), Virender Singh (Health) won in straight games.

Vijay Mehra Academy win
Vinay Singh of St Stephen's College made 85 (14x4) and later claimed four wickets giving 21 runs to guide Vijay Mehra Cricket Academy to 72-run victory over Unique Cricket Club. A fine partnership of 180 runs between Vinay Singh and Kamal Kishore (84) was the highlight of the match.

Brief scores: Vijay Mehra Cricket Academy: 264/5 (Vinay Singh 85, Kamal Kishore 84, Kartik Arya 30, Mukesh Dahiya 27, Sunder 4/26) beat Unique Cricket Club: 192 (Dinesh 55, Vinay Singh 4/21, Wasim Alvi 4/36).

Inter-Bank tournaments
Indian Bank and Punjab and Sind Bank will jointly organise the VI Inter-Bank carrom, chess and badminton tournament from March 23 to 27 at Karnail Singh (indoor) Stadium. Teams from Delhi, Chandigarh, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir will be participating in the tournament. S. Rangarajkumar, GM Indian Bank, will inuagurate the function while SC Vohra, GM PSB will be the chief guest.

Qutab Nursery inuagurated
Qutab Cricket Nursery was inaugrated by former India wicket-keeper Vijay Yadav and N.P. Singh, both Subhania products, here today. On the inaugural day, about 200 boys got registered for the selection trials that start from tomorrow. Interest boys should contact Radhey Shyam and B.D. Sharma at the Nursery at Laddo Sarai, Mehrauli, Opposide Qutab Minar for trials. The talents will be chosen by a team of professionals like Rajender Goel, Haider Ali, Vijay Yadav, Vinod Gupta and N.P. Singh and B.D. Sharma, physical instructor.
