Court allows ED to examine Karsan executives, rejects bail

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
NEW DELHI, MARCH 24: A Special Court on Wednesday allowed Enforcement Directorate (ED) to examine two Karsan executives, key accused in the Rs 133 crore urea scam, in connection with related Foreign Exchange Regulation Act (FERA) violation cases.

Special Judge V B Gupta also rejected bail applications of the two executives Tunkay Alankus and Cihan Karanci, lodged in Tihar jail, saying "No ground is made out for grant of bail to any of these accused at this stage."

He said "inquiries can be made from the two executives by ED officials on April 5 and 6 for not more than two hours each day while they are in judicial custody."

The ED in its application had submitted that the agency should be allowed to examine the two Turkish nationals as they might give important information regarding the case.

The two executives had moved bail applications on November 3 last year on the ground that all other accused in the case have been granted bail.
