VADODARA, MARCH 24: Eight people were affected during a training session for civil officials, at Deepak Nitrite Limited (DNI) at Nandesari on the outskirts of the city today, organised to demonstrate how to tackle situations like ammonia gas leakage.Briefing the media persons, Collector and Chairman of Central Control Room (CCR) Anil Mukim said that the incident occurred when the company was holding a campaign to spread awareness among the people in the area regarding an emergency situation and how to handle it.
The victims were hospitalised and six fire fighters controlled the situation, which took one hour to normalise. The CCR had for the first time decided to impart training to civil officials after the Bhopal gas tragedy, wherein people located around a chemical industry were killed on the spot inhaling poisonous gas during a leakage.
The authorities have asked the factories in the area to close down for half-a-day in the wake of the incident to avoid any untoward happenings later. Trains and busservices were also halted for a half an hour, the Collector added.
