Chandigarh, March 24: The All India Dalits and Minorities Welfare Front has urged the Chandigarh Administration and the governments of Punjab and Haryana to make available the facility of scholarship loans to the students belonging to the Dalit communities and other economically weaker sections of the society for pursuing higher studies abroad.This was stated by O.P. Kalyana, general secreatry of the Front. He added that the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment was also being approached for the purpose.
Meanwhile, the Punjab SC, ST and Backward castes Union held a rally at the Dharna chowk this afternoon to press for greater reservation. The rally dispersed after representatives of the body submitted a memorandum to the Punjab government officials.
