College teachers observe bandh

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
PATIALA, March 24: The teachers of privately managed colleges of Patiala district observed a bandh today. The teachers of the Public College, Samana, PMN College, Rajpura, Modi College and Khalsa College, Patiala sat on dharna in front of the office of the principal of M.M. Modi College here.

The teachers were agitating against the alleged casual and callous attitude of the Punjab government towards their long standing demands.

District president Prof M. M. Gupta addressed the rally and urged the Punjab government to accept the demands of the teachers immediately and issue notification regarding the University Grants Commission pay scales for the teachers of the privately managed colleges. Due to the ongoing agitation of the teachers, examinations of the universities have been postponed and as a result thousands of students are likely to suffer.

Prof Jaswant Singh, district secretary PCCTU, thanked all the teachers for participation and cooperation during the agitation. He appealed to teachers to honour the decisions taken by the leadership in future as well.
