Delhi Blues lose to IA despite Dogra's ton

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, March 26: Sumeet Dogra, who hit an entertaining knock of 106 for Delhi Blues, finished on the losing side as Indian Airlines beat them by five wickets to storm into the final of the third Roshanara Pepsi Cup tournament at the picturesque Roshanara ground here today.

Delhi Blues, consting of National Stadium trainees, scored 239 in 49.1 of the stipulated 50 overs in the semi-final. Airlines reached the target for the loss of five wickets in 44.2 overs, with useful contributions coming from almost all the top-order batsmen. Virender Sehwag celebrated his call for national duty by top-scoring (57).

The only consolation for Dogra, who also took one wicket for 57 in Airlines' innings, was that he was declared the `man of the match.'

A 60-run partnership between Dogra and Anshu Lamba (30) for the fifth wicket, after they were reduced to 93 for four, was the only redeeming feature of Delhi Blues' innings after they were asked to bat first. There were five run outs in their innings, including four-in-a-row at the lower-half. Dogra defied the seven-man Airlines attack to score a hundred which included seven fours and a six and came off 105 deliveries.

Dahiya (21) and Arun Kumar (30) put on 56 for the opening wicket; Sehwag and Khaleel (41 not out: 1x6) ) put on 72 for the fifth wicket; and Khaleel and Sukhwinder Singh (40 not out: 3x4, 1x6) shared 54 runs for the unbroken sixth wicket to steer the team to victory.

Roshanara will take on Sonnet in the second semi-final on Saturday.
