One-sided contests

CHANDIGARH, MARCH 26: Most of the encounters held on the opening day of the Chandigarh State tennis championship, which began here at the Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association (CLTA) courts in Sector 10, were one-sided affairs.

Harneet Singh beat Andhya Das Gupta 8-1 while Nitin Mehta lost to Anoop Anand 3-8, in the under-16 boys section.

The under-18 boys second round matches were also one-sided contests. Yuvraj blanked Prabhjot Sachdeva 8-0 while Ankit Raj got the better of Mukul Kumar 8-4.

However, Prabhleen Chowhan had to fight it out to score 8-7 (2) victory over Astha Choudhary, in the under-16 girls category.

The matches will begin tomorrow at 8 a.m. Competition is also being held in senior division.

Results: Boys: Under-18 (second round): Yuvraj bt Prabhjot Sachdeva 8-0; Ardaman Sidhu bt Kabir Krishan 8-0; Ankit Raj bt Mukul Kumar 8-4. Under 16: Rohan Bhandari bt Shabroz Gill 6-2; Simramjit Cheema bt Sahil Sehgal 8-4; Mukul Kumar bt Digvijay 8-4; Rupinder Saini bt Varun Garg 8-5; Harneet Singh bt Andhya Das Gupta 8-1; Kinshuk Sharma bt Babul Khera 8-4; Arjun Grewal bt Harshvardhan 8-6; Karan Kapoor bt Sanam Krishan 8-1; Anoop Aand bt Nitin Mehta 8-3; Maninder Singh bt Sahil Thapa 8-3; Chatwander Singh bt Rachit Bansal 8-2; Kabir Krishan bt Gurdit Singh 8-6; Ardaman Sidhu bt Gurneet Singh 8-7 (2) Ankit Raj bt Arvind Sharda 8-4; Abhishek Sood got a w/o Tushar Liberahan; Yuvraj bt Manish Choffla 8-5; Harneet Singh bt Dhruv Sharan 8-3. Karate trials
Trials to select Chandigarh senior team for the forthcoming South Asian karate championship to be held at Indore (Madhya Pradesh), will be held on April 2, at 8 a.m., at MDAV School in Sector 22.
