ISLAMABAD, MARCH 30: India and Pakistan will hold expert-level talks here next month on several crucial issues including advanced notification on ballistic missile test and reduction of risks of an accidental use of nuclear weapons to prepare the groundwork for their foreign secretary-level talks next May.Pakistani Foreign Secretary Shamshad Ahmed told PTV in an interview here that the experts' meeting will be followed up in the second half of May when the secretaries meet in New Delhi to discuss the two main issues of peace and security and Kashmir.
The foreign secretaries will also review the composite and integrated dialogue process on all outstanding issues between the two countries, he said.
Ahmed dismissed fears expressed in a section of the Pakistani media about the implementation of the Lahore Declaration, saying, ``The spirit of the Lahore Declaration is intact and media statements cannot become a hurdle in its implementation.''
His comments come after Indian Foreign Minister Jaswant Singhand his Pakistani counterpart, Sartaj Aziz, agreed during their Colombo meeting last month to organise expert-level negotiations over the next two months to sort out how to implement the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed during Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee's Lahore visit.
The MoU, signed by the Indian and Pakistani foreign secretaries, says the two nations shall engage in bilateral consultations on security doctrines to develop confidence building measures in the nuclear and conventional fields.
