District panchayat budget passed

VADODARA, March 30: Providing free bus passes to students up to class nine and living below poverty line, financial assistance for accident victims in villages, providing for anti-rabies vaccine and laminating revenue records of villages are some of the highlights of the Vadodara District Panchayat budget for 1999-2000 AD.

The budget was passed unanimously in the meeting under the chairmanship of Kalyanbhai Patel on Tuesday. These new schemes will be introduced from April 1.

The budget has an opening balance of Rs 2.80 crore plus and the Panchayat expects to raise an estimated Rs 6.27 crore under the head of its own fund during the year, District Development Officer (DDO) Anju Sharma said. Out of the Rs 46,10,000 alloted in the field of primary education, a certain amount would be spent on 100 per cent assistance to students up to class 12 and living below poverty line.

The amount also includes financial assistance for rural libraries, book bank schemes for students of economically weaker sections and purchasing equipment for primary schools.

Patel said in case of any major accident, a villager would be provided a maximum of Rs 500 for X-ray and medicines. The Community Health Centre (CHC) at Dabhoi and Savli and, Primary Health Centre (PHC) at Waghodia would be provided ambulances. For organising medical camps each of the PHCs would be provided Rs 2,500. The works will be carried out from the allocation of Rs 49 lakh in the health sector.

The amount incurred during putting off the fire in the villages would be reimbursed by the panchayat authorities.

He further said that panchayat officers and employees would be imparted computer training and the employees would be also given identity cards.

An amount to the tune of Rs 8,40,000 would be spent on training of officers, educational tours and developing tourism.

Each of the 49 members of the panchayat would could suggest developmental works to the tune of Rs two lakh. An allocation has been also made to install television sets under the rural broadcasting scheme.

The building sectors has been allocated more than Rs 1.23 crore from which roads will be repaired, nullahs laid and rest houses maintained among other things.

Allocations have been also made in the irrigation and social welfare sectors.
