Eleven years ago, ad-man Ramesh Narayan devised a unique New Year give-away for his friends and clients -- a personalised calender. "I had been an enthusiastic photographer for many years and thought it would be a good idea to make a calender using pictures I'd taken all over the world. Soon it became an annual feature and generated an element of anticipation," he says. Now, Narayan takes the next logical step in his photographic journey by exhibiting his works, but for a cause. "When a friend suggested that I hold an exhibition of photographs, it didn't make sense to me. After all, there are only two reasons to exhibit an artist's work -- money and fame. Both don't apply in my case," he says.

But when he got together with alert-india -- a NGO that's actively involved in the field of leprosy -- he finally found a purpose. "My agency, Canco Advertising, has been associated with Alert for five years, and I'm glad that my hobby is going to help a worthy cause," he says.

The 57 photographs on display aredominated by "easy-on-the-eyes" landscapes. "I've also selected a few experimental shots photographs printed on canvas, which have the clarity of a picture and the texture of a painting," he says.

The works are priced in the range of Rs 10,000 to Rs 25,000.

At the Y B Chavan Gallery, Sachivalay. Till April 5. Time: 10.30 am to 6.30 pm.
