Kores Open from Saturday

Mumbai's prestigious amateur golf tournament, the Kores Open, will get under way at the Bombay Presidency Golf Club, Chembur. Sameet Sanghrajka is the defending men's champion while Rani Maheshwari is the reigning women's title-holder.

Win the World Cup get a Merc

Aiwa and Baron Electronics have joined the World Cup fever by offering an E-220 Mercedes-Benz car to each member of the Indian cricket team if they win the World Cup to be held from May 14 to June 20 in England. This was announced by Kabir Mulchandani of Baron at a press meet on Tuesday. He also announced that if India wins the World Cup then every customer who invests in an Aiwa starting March 31 will stand to get Rs 6000, a semi-final victory fetches each consumer Rs 4000 while if the team qualifies for the last four stage then the customer gets Rs 2000 each.

Ganguly, BPL player of week

Saurav Ganguly has been chosen as the BPL Player of the Week for the period of March 19 to March25. Ganguly was chosen for the award over Saeed Anwar of Pakistan and Daryll Cullinan of South Africa because of his brilliant all-round performance against Sri Lanka at Nagpur. Ganguly had scored an unbeaten 130 and also taken four wickets in the match.

Venkatesh succeeds

M Venkatesh, treasurer of Maharashtra State Basketball Association and secretary of the Maharashtra State Basketball Referees, has passed the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), International Referees Examination held at New Delhi from January 30 to February 1, 1999, conducted by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Examination Commission.

Summer coaching camps
