Orissa alleges bid to create sympathy for Dara Singh
EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
BHUBANESWAR, April 1: The Orissa Government has taken exception to what it describes as attempts initiated by some quarters to portray Dara Singh, the main accused in the killing of Australian missionary Graham Staines and his two sons at Manoharpur, as innocent in a bid to create public sympathy.Making a statement in the Assembly on an interview given by a person claiming to be Dara Singh to photojournalist Binay Bhushan Patnaik, Minister of State for Home Prasad Harichandan described the move to portray the accused in a different light as unjustified and unfortunate. The Opposition, meanwhile, criticised the Government for the delay in apprehending Dara. Arun Dey (Independent) alleged that the Centre and the State had started a move to glorify Dara Singh. Copyright © 1999 Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd.
