April 1: A 28-year-old succumbed to his injuries after he was beaten up in a bar at Chembur on Tuesday evening.The deceased Mohammed Ibrahim Ismail and friends, Nurulla Abdul Hasan and Abdul Latif Mohammed, consumed liquor at Hot Shot Bar and Restaurant at Panjarpole junction on Sion-Trombay road at 11.30 pm. Later, they joined the dancing girls on the dais when the bar manager Karnappa objected to their dancing and disturbing other clients.Following argument Karnappa was joined by the bar owner Sadanand Shetty and employees Raju Valan and Dayanand Hegde who allegedly beat up the drunken trio with iron rods and hockey sticks.
The three men were rushed to LTMG Hospital at Sion, where Mohammed succumbed to his injuries. His two friends were allowed to go after treatment, the police stated. Karnappa and Hegde have been arrested in connection with the murder.
In another case, a 14-year-old boy was killed after he was struck on the head with a cricket bat near Sakinaka at Andheri (E) on Wednesday evening.Eyewitnesses account said the victim Toufique Sardar Khan (14) and Sarfaraz Sheikh (14) were playing a match at Tar Galli when they got into an argument and Sarfaraz struck Toufique with the bat with which he was playing.
Toufique's friends rushed him to Rajawadi hospital at Ghatkopar where he was declared dead before admission. The Sakinaka police have charged Sarfaraz with murder.
