Fifteen Thousand people will donate blood

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
SURAT, April 1: Lok Samarpan Raktadan Kendera (LSRK), a Surat-based voluntary organisation, claims to have received responses from 15,000 people willing to donate blood during the camp to be held on April 4. The blood donation camp, to be organised by LSRK at Saurashtra Bhavan in the city, would be inaugurated by film star Jitendra at 9 am.

Addressing a press conference on Thursday, LSRK president Dr Jivrajbhai Dhakra claimed that they would create a world record by collecting 9000 bottles of blood. Pointing out that all blood banks of the State put together had a storing capacity of only 6000 bottles, Dhakra said that LSRK had to write to blood banks of Maharashtra and Rajashthan, inviting them for the camp. About 40 blood banks from these two states were expected to come and collect blood bottles, he added.

More than 250 Varachha-based trusts and voluntary organisations would take part in the camp, which would be supervised by a team of 300 teachers and 200 doctors.

Prominent people among those who are expected to be present for inaugural function include Police Commissioner Kuldip Sharma, Indian Medical Association president Dr B C Patel, Director of State's Aids CeLL Dr D M Saxena, Head of Preventive Social Medicine Department of New Civil Hospital Dr Vikasben Desai, Inspector General of Police G C Raiger and Marketing Manager of Limca Book of Records DDR Murthy.
