Third hoax call on Rashtrapati Bhavan lands man in police net

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, April 1: Braham Dev Singh, a 35-year-old man from Bihar, was so disturbed by the state of affairs in the country that he decided to meet the President and give him some tips on how to deal with the situation. Only, he chose a sensational way to get the President's attention and is presently in the Dabri Jail for his efforts. He has been remanded to judicial custody till April 15.

Singh was arrested by the south-west district police for misleading them. He was caught `red-handed' while making a call to the Police Control Room (PCR) on the pretext of `informing' the police about a bomb in Rashtrapati Bhawan.

According to Singh, he had come from Bhagalpur, Bihar, to look for a job in the city and found work as a security guard. But he was greatly affected by the deteriorating law and order situation and therefore, decided to meet the President himself. Singh called the President, sent him letters, went to Rashtrapati Bhavan, but all his efforts proved futile. So he decided to get back at the government machinery.

The police said that the first call was made by Singh to the PCR on March 27, when he `informed' the police that a bomb had been planted in the Rashtrapati Bhavan. The information reportedly had the police swinging into action, only to discover that it was a hoax. On March 30, the police received another call from him which again proved to be a hoax. But this time the police were able to trace his call to a phone booth in Sagarpur in the Dabri area. The police immediately alerted the booth-owner. He was told to be on his guard and help them track down the caller.

Yesterday evening, Braham came to the booth and made the call as always, unaware that he was being watched. The phone booth owner informed the police.
