PUNE, April 1: Puneites continued to feel the brunt of the intense heat for the second consecutive day today as mercury remained around 40 degree Celsius. Today's maximum temperature was recorded at 39.5 degree Celsius, a low by 0.6 degree as compared to yesterday's high of 40.1 degree Celsius. The weather department has attributed the rise in temperature to the heat wave sweeping North India and has forecast the prevalence of such condition for another three to four days.
The fact that for the past few days the humidity level has also dropped drastically the intense heat is being felt all the more. As against the normal average value of around 18 per cent in the month of March, the humidity fell to as low as just 8 per cent in the last week of March.
Another reason cited for the high temperatures is the prevalence of anti-cyclone in the Madhya Maharashtra. Due to the meteorological phenomenon the air in the atmosphere remains close to surface which eventually prevents the movement of winds and the water vapour from the Arabian sea.
As a result of this the air has become dry and one is feeling the pinch of heat, said a weather department spokesman.
