Rakesh steers Rajnigandha to easy victory

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, April 1: Fine all-round display by Rakesh Bhatia (82 and 2 for 14) helped Rajnigandha Club defeat Malviya by 19 runs in a A-I division DDCA League match.

Choosing to use the strip first, Rajnigandha mustered 226 for five in their allotted 40 overs, thanks to a well-made 82 by Rakesh and 41 by Harish Kumar. Rakesh's knock contained nine boundaries. Rajnigandha's total attained some respectability following contributions from Rajeev Rathore (27 no) and Sarvesh Gupta (26).

For Malviya, Puru Singh was the most successful bowler with two scalps. He gave away 35 runs.

Chasing a non-too-impossible target, the Malviya batsmen started off well only to lose their way in between to be bowled out for 207 in 38.2 overs. Pradeep Kashyap, who made 48 with six hits to the ropes, and Faraz Mushtap (46) gave some semblance to their sagging morale but it was not enough in the end.

In another match at Palam, Subhania downed Madras Club by six wickets with more ease. Batting first Madras made 230 for eight with Dhanraj Singh making 40 and others chipping in with reasonable scores. But Subhania, helped by 71 by Surinder Kumar and Shahba Mobin's 44, overhauled Madras total. The two not out batsmen, Mridul Gupta (28) and Hemant Dogra (25) also made useful contributions.

In other matches, Inborn cricketers defeated National Stadium Coaching Centre by seven wickets, K.N. Colts downed Ajmal Khan by 22 runs, Delhi Administration beat Kishan Ganj Colts by five wickets and I&B Ministry triumphed over Health Ministry by eight wickets.
