The issue was raised during Question Hour by Bharatiya Janata Party Member of the Legislative Assembly Nand Kishore Garg. Along with other members of the Opposition, Garg accused the Chief Minister of ``insensitively'' cutting the national tricolour and the Ashok Chakra on her birthday cake.

``Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit has cut a cake on her birthday which was a replica of our national flag. It had the tricolour and the Ashok Chakra, which she cut with a knife. It is unthinkable that a chief minister of Delhi should do such a thing and show disrespect towards the national flag,'' Leader of the Opposition Jagdish Mukhi said, demanding a written apology from the CM.

Celebrating her 61st birthday yesterday, Dikshit had, indeed, cut a huge cake in the shape of the national tricolour in the presence of her Cabinet colleagues, MLAs,representatives of various government organisations and party workers. But, she clarified, she took the utmost care to avoid cutting the tricolour on the cake. And that she did not intentionally or unintentionally show any disrespect towards the national flag.
