NEW DELHI, April 4: A 33-year-old woman was burnt to death, allegedly by her husband and parents-in-law, at her Naraina Vihar residence in south-west Delhi last night. An SDM inquiry has been ordered into the incident.``We received a call about the fire around 8.15 p.m. We called the fire brigade immediately, and it took them nearly three hours to control the blaze. The woman's burnt body was recovered after the fire was put out,'' said Naraina station house officer Rajender Singh.
According to the police, the victim -- Kamlesh -- got married to Rajesh around two years ago. Singh says that while Rajesh, who runs a small shop, and his parents have said that they were not at home when the fire broke out, Kamlesh's brother Satish Arora has accused them of killing his sister. ``Her brother was called from Agra. In his statement to the SDM, he has said that Kamlesh was being harassed for dowry and her husband and parents-in-law killed her,'' Singh said.
Initially, it was assumed that the fire had broken out after a cylinder blast as three cylinders were lying in the store room. However, police officials are now saying that they are awaiting a report from the fire department as it is possible that the fire could have triggered off the cylinder blast. A case of dowry death has been registered and Kamlesh's husband and parents-in-law are being interrogated.
