NEW DELHI, April 4: A city court yesterday remanded two officials of the State Bank of Saurashtra (SBS) to three days of CBI custody for allegedly cheating the bank of Rs 1.09 crore. The manager of the Nehru Place branch of SBS, R.S. Gaur, and field officer S.K. Haldar were arrested on March 30 at Bhavnagar in Gujarat. They were brought here on a transit remand after the Bhavnagar chief judicial magistrate passed an order to this effect.According to the FIR, Gaur, a resident of Gurgaon, and Haldar, a resident of Gujarat, helped one Mukesh Goel to get a cash credit limit of Rs 25 lakh and a foreign letter of credit limit of Rs 1.25 crore in favour of Goel's firm M/S Anika Exports.
Gaur and Haldar allegedly did not bother to verify the value of various properties to be mortgaged to the bank in violation of the bank's norms. According to the CBI, on the basis of the credit facilities extended by SBS, Anika Exports got imported timber and disposed of the same without making a payment to the bank. The two bank officials allegedly received cash and gold ornaments from Goel, who is currently out on bail.
