Second seed Bengle ousted

NAGPUR: Top seed Anthony Maria Irudayam of Indian Airlines moved into pre-quarter finals while second seed Jagan Bengle failed to make the same grade in men's section in the 28th senior National Carrom Championship. In the women's, top seed R Sharmila and second seed P Nirmala recorded easy victories to move into the next round.

Hari, Mann best

CALCUTTA: Hari Singh and navigator Gurinder Singh Mann, won the fifth EMSA wild run motor rally for the second successive time. Hari and Mann retained the title incurring the minimum penalty of onehour 44 minutes and 17 seconds. The wild run rally, held between Calcutta and Durgapur covering a distance of 550 km including 133 km of special stages.

Tennis clinic

CHENNAI: At least 30 budding tennis stars would have an opportunity to enhance their skills under the auspices of the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy clinics to be hosted on the sidelines of Gold Flake Open tournament this week. The clinics would be held here from April 3 to 9 and on April 8 and 9 at Mumbai.

CR trounced

CALCUTTA: Rajan Minz of BNR scored the first hat-trick of the Beighton Cup Hockey tournament, helping his team trounce Central Railway, Mumbai, 4-0. In two other matches of the day, fancied East Bengal lost to All India Central Industrial Security Force (AICISF) 0-2 while Core of Signal, Bangalore, beat Calcutta Electric Supply Corporation (CESC) 1-0.
