Bangalore, April 4: Trust our national selectors to conform to type. After all their relentless chopping and changing of players these past few months the national selectors pulled the name of Debashis Mohanty out of the hat for the 1999 World Cup to be held in England from May 14 to June 20. Mohanty was not involved in the Pepsi series and has not played any international cricket in the recent past.``Although he is not in the short-listed 19, the selectors believe he would be a good bet in England. We will write to the ICC tonight itself and if his name is ratified he will be the 15th member of the team,'' said JY Lele, secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India on Sunday night.
Sachin Tendulkar, who missed the Pepsi Tri-series, is in the squad for the World Cup, but not for the triangular Sharjah tournament (April 7 to 16). ``His bad back was brought about by what is called the dehydration syndrome,'' said Lele. ``We kept him out of the Sharjah tournament as in the heat and humidity therethe same problem might resurface.
Tendulkar and Ganguly are expected to chip in with the bowling while Robin Singh goes with the tag of all rounder. Chopra and Kumble will be the spinners. Srinath, Prasad, Agarkar and Mohanty are the seamers. Azharuddin, Jadeja, Tendulkar, Ganguly, Ramesh, Dravid, Khurasia, are the seven batsmen.
