Badminton coaches' clinic in Chandigarh

CHANDIGARH, April 4: The Badminton Coaches Welfare Association of India is organising a national badminton coaches clinic here from April 9 to 11, according to BCWAI president T P S Puri. The clinic is being conducted in preparation for the approaching new millennium, which will be providing new challenges to the coaches with the changed landscape of Indian badminton in relation to the world badminton.

Subjects for the clinic have been chosen in keeping with the increasing pace of changes affecting badminton and current shortfall faced by our coaches.

Dr Ashok Ahuja of Sports Authority of India will speak on sports medicine, specific injuries sports prevention and rehabilitation and nutrition related to training and competitions.

T P S Puri will deliver lecture on mental preparation during training and pre-training, and post competition and specific strength training relation to style of play. Dr A Ghosh will speak on physiological and physical aspects in preparation for millennium and badminton administration. Dr JPS Sidhu and S Murlidharan are also among those invited to attend the clinic.

Ritesh Manchanda's unbeaten knock of 78 runs enabled Videocon Cricket Club beat Tari Cricket Club by 18 runs in the Second Shankar Lal Memorial cricket tournament today.

Brief scores: Videocon CC: 197 for 3 (Ritesh Manchanda 78 n.o, Gautam Sharma 69, Vineet 17); Tari CC: 179: (Yoginder Bhandari 61, Baljeet 25, Anil 21, Surinder 3 for 19, Varinder Chopra 3 for 23, Moti 2 for 9).

World health day
The third physical fitness meet will be held on April 6 at Sector 7 Sports Complex, under the aegis of Directorate General of Health Services, Haryana.
