MUMBAI, APR 5: Fiat India has started a price war in the luxury car segment by pricing its premium segment offering Siena far lower than its competitors. Siena will be available at Rs 5.70 lakh in Mumbai as compared to its nearest rival Maruti Esteem's Rs 5.97 crore.Fiat's Siena will be available in two versions with its deluxe ELX PS model costing Rs 5.98 lakh in Mumbai and Rs 5.74 lakh in Delhi. For the diesel engined deluxe version, Fiat has priced Siena at Rs 6.94 in Mumbai and Rs 6.68 lakh.
In the premium segment, Fiat has, therefore, taken a lead from the US car makers like Ford Motors and General Motors who are unable to sell their cars in the Indian markets - thanks mainly to pricing their cars in the Rs 8-10 lakh bracket.
Siena, Fiat's second offering in India after Uno, would start booking from April 15, on a first-cum-first served basis, the company said in a statement here. The company said it plans to deliver 2,000 cars in the first three months and 7,000 vehicles in the 1999 calendaryear.
