Booking a place in history in a tiny way

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
MUVATTUPUZHA (Kerala), April 5: Books come in all sizes. But the smallest book in an Indian language is in Malayalam.

The book titled Rasarasika is in the possession of Malayalam writer Payipra Radhakrishnan. He got it from a friend about 28 years back.

It is impossible to read the book with naked eyes. Any attempt at reading can be made only with the help of microlens.

The book measures one-and-a-half cm in length and is about one cm in width. The size matches a man's thumbnail. The letters are about one-fifth the size of the ones used in newspapers.

The book, consisting of prose and short poems, has 25 pages. The basics and fundamentals relating to lyrics, especially classical music, are its contents.

The book is authored by K V Manalikkara. It was printed in Japan in 1960 using micro-printing system. Over 30 copies were printed at that time.

The book also has the distinction of having been exhibited at many prestigious book fairs around the world.
