Impressive haul by Indians

UNITED NEWS OF INDIA  
April 5: India finished the Asian Powerlifting Championships here today with 14 gold, 21 silver and 5 bronze medals and taking the top place in junior, men's and runners-up in senior men. Indian women took second place behind Chinese Taipei in both seniors and juniors.

The six gold winners today were V Xavier (125 kg), Sushil Kumar (plus 125 kg) in senior men's and Umesh Kumar Rana (90 kg), Gurmeet Singh (100kg), Kulwant Kumar (110kg) and J S Cheema (plus 125 kg) in juniors.

The four silvers today were brought in by rachpal singh (110 kg) and a kapoor (125 kg) in seniors and raj dar mishra (82.5 kg) and surjit singh (125 kg) in juniors.

Taipei's Lee Chia Sui and Chao Chen Yen were adjudged the junior and senior strong women of Asia while Sivokon Alexei of Kazhakastan and Hsies Tsung Ting of Taipei picked up the men's titles.
