Irudayam fights back for title

NAGPUR, APRIL 5: Down 0-1 and trailing 20-23 in the second game, world No 1 Irudayam got a chance when his opponent M Natraj missed the white slam and the title-win by a whisker. Irudayam levelled the tie 1-1 and then took the title with a 0-25, 25-23, 25-18 win in the National championships.

Results (semi-finals): Men's singles: A Maria Irudayam (IA) bt B Radhakrishnan (IA) 25-7, 15-25, 25-14, M Natraj (PSCB) bt K Radhakrishnan (TN) 25-4, 25-23; Women's singles: R Sharmila (TN) bt P Nirmala (LIC) 25-22, 25-24, M S Radha (IAAD) bt Kavita Somanchi (Delhi) 25-10, 11-25, 25-16; Men's doubles: Zaheer Ahmed-Shirajuddin Ahmed (LIC) bt Nagsen Etambe-E Arokiyaraj (BSB) 19-25, 25-18, 22-21, Jagan Bengle-Raju Katare (BSB) bt M Natraj-K Ramesh Babu (PSCB) 25-15, 25-1; Women's doubles: P Nirmala-Shilpa Joshi (LIC) bt S Apoorva-K Suvarna (Hyderabad) 25-22, 25-6, R Sharmila-D Swarnalatha (TN) bt Anupama Kedar-Rashmi Kumari (BSB) 25-9, 22-25, 25-18.
