Traffic police to charge for towing vehicles

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
CHANDIGARH, April 7: The Chandigarh Administration has authorised and notified the city Traffic Police to levy towing charges on persons whose vehicles are removed by the police.

This notification comes within two days of Kiran Bedi's joining as UT Inspector General of Police.

A press statement issued by Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Balbir Singh said removal cranes were made operational in the city with effect from today. It added that towing charges shall be levied in addition to the Rs 100 challan for parking at an unauthorised place.

The statement appealed to citizens to park vehicles only at authorised parking places to ensure smooth flow of traffic. "Parking of vehicles unauthorisedly on the roads, slow carriage ways, road berms, pavements, lanes, by-lanes and streets causes obstruction and inconvenience to the general public, which should be avoided," it added.
