Kurukshetra, April 7: The Government Railway Police (GRP) has proposed placing permanent guards and regular patrolling at the Markanda railway bridge in Shahbad after Monday night's bomb blast, which resulted in minor damage to a pier of the bridge. The bomb blast -- the third such attempt to blow up the bridge in the past six months -- has shaken the residents' confidence. Talking to ENS, some residents said the blast, at the 12th pier of the bridge, was so loud that they rushed out of their houses, terrified. The detection of a powerful device along with 20 kg RDX on February 7 had forced the police to announce a red alert in the area.
The talking point in the town was how the explosives could be planted when the GRP personnel, accompanied by sniffer dogs, had made a routine check of the bridge around 10 p.m. on Monday night. Meanwhile, former SGPC chief G. S. Tohra today called upon Haryana Chief Minister Bansi Lal to order an inquiry to expose the bomb blast conspiracy. He said earlier also, attempts had been made to blow up the track at the same place.
