Baboor to be felicitated

MUMBAI:The Mumbai Suburban District Table Tennis Association (MSDTTA) will felicitate National table tennis champion Chetan Baboor on April 11, for his fine showing in the recent Asia Top 12 tourney at Iran.

Bagan beaten

CALCUTTA: Corps Of Signal capitalised on a weak defence to defeat Mohun Bagan 3-2 to move into the pre-quarter finals of the 104th Beighton Cup Hockey Tournament here today.

Lazarus Barla, Avtar Singh and N S Salavia scored for Corps Of Signal (COS) while hosts Bagan reduced the margin through M Ekka and Gregory Minz.

In another match, Army Services Corps pipped Sikh Regimental Centre 9-8 via sudden death to move into the last eight.

Majeed in lead

KOZHIKODE:Scoring three-and-a-half points, National player N Abdul Majeed has emerged as leader at the end of the third and fourth rounds of the International Rating Chess Championship for the Hoorulyn Trophy in progress here.

Fide Woman Master Bindu K Saritha, national junior star KRatnakaran and British Paul Brown were among those behind with three points each.

Results:N Abdul Majeed bt Jose Mathew, Bindu K Saritha bt M K Basheer, T K Joseph drew with Abhimod, S F Siva drew with Rangarajan, Rahul Sangma lost to K R Mazhusoodanan.

PGAI rankings

MUMBAI: Vijay Kumar of Lucknow leads the pack in the Mahindra Golf Rankings with 366 points and only 2 tournaments left this year. His earnings so far have exceeded Rs 13 lakh. Shiv Prakash is lying second with 273 points to his credit and his earnings have so far exceeded Rs 10 lakh making him the second millionaire this year after Vijay Kumar.

SAARC judo

LUCKNOW: The first SAARC Judo Championship beginning here on Thursday is likely to lose some of its sheen as participation of Pakistan and Bangladesh seemed doubtful.

The members of the contingents from the two countries have yet to receive their visas it was made known. In their absence there will only be three teams-- Sri Lanka, Nepal and India-- participating inthe championship.
