CHANDIGARH, April 11: For the proper care of its inmates, the UT administration has handed over the management of Sector 15 Old Age Home to the Lions Club, Chandigarh Central from April 1 onwards.A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting held recently. The meeting, chaired by Adviser to the UT Administration, was attended by officials of UT Social Welfare Department and members of the club. After a thorough discussion in the meeting, the administration agreed to allocate an annual grant of Rs 4.50 lakh against the actual expenditure of Rs 6.50 lakh, including the salary components of staff. This shortfall of Rs two lakh will be borne from its annual budget.
Lion (Dr) B. S. Aggarwal explained that a lot of improvement was required in setting up the Home to make the inmates feel homely. He submitted that an additional staff will have to be employed for the maintenance of lawns, starting of a kitchen garden and round the clock attendant facility for which they have estimated an overall expenditure of Rs 7 lakh per annum. So, Aggarwal insisted that the Club should be given a grant of Rs 6 lakh.
He also informed the club was already running a school in the Kumhar Colony, in which 150 students, were given free books and uniforms.
While appreciating the interest shown by the club, the Adviser said it would not be proper to seek the entire amount from the Administration. Meanwhile, a 11-member committee has been constituted under the chairmanship of B. S. Aggarwal for the smooth functioning of the Home. The other members include manager hospitality Rajinder Bansal, Manager House Keeping K. K. Sharma, PRO Sanjeev Gupta. The Director UT Social Welfare Prithi Chand will be an adviser to the committee.
