Russian fair ends

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
VADODARA, April 11: The three-day Russian Education Fair concluded at the M S University here on Sunday with very few students from the host university and other universities attending the Open House.

The Open House was organised to make students familiar with universities in Russia and the courses, fees and scholarships offered.

Though a large crowd was expected, the open house saw a thin gathering of those who had come just to collect information.

A student of the Faculty of Science Mahesh Joshi said he had come to see which were the universities in Russia and the courses they offered.

He said people had a vague idea of universities in the United States of America and Australia, but not of Russia.

According to him, with the number of students vying for admission in these universities increasing, students had to look for options in other parts of the country. Joshi's friend Ritesh Pandya said, he was not sure whether he would pursue a career in any of the Russian universities, but had come to collect details of the courses offered in the various universities of Russia and the feasibility.

``Though university education in other parts of the country is expensive, they offer a variety of courses which our country doesn't,'' said Sonali Bhatt, a student of the Faculty of Arts.

According to Bhatt, though she was not well-informed about Russian universities, but would consider the option if proper courses were offered and the university was recognised.

When contacted, Head of the Russian department Debal Dasgupta said, ``Probably not many people understood the concept of a Russian Education Fair.'' He added that as it was examination time both in the university as well as schools not many students could make it.
